This area has been inhabited since prehistoric times: Along the shore from the lake-dwellers during the so-called La-Tène-Time (500-100 B.C.) The Celts settled in on the opposite Mont Vully in fortified oppidum; 58 B.C. they tried to emigrate and burnt down the site. Near Bibracte imperator Julius Caesar foreced the Helvetians to turn around. More about that in the Mont Vully Trail (from 2019).
The nearby Avenches (Aventicum) - in the 1. - 3. century A.D. a town with 20'000 residents - was the capital of the Roman Civitas Helvetiorum. The Avenches Roman Trail will guide you soon through this intersting time and landscape.
